High Weights/Low Reps Or The Reverse -- Woman Personal Trainer, Takoma Park
There is a belief that lifting light weights and doing a lot of repetitions will prevent you from getting big muscles. This is partially true. High repetitions with a low weight will build muscle endurance instead of muscle strength.

The problem is that using low weights will limit how strong you will get. Women start to lose muscle mass after the age of 30. You want to stay as strong as you can and maintain your muscle mass.

There is a belief that the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn each day. Using low weights and doing many repetitions will not create as much muscle mass as using a heavier weight and doing less repetitions.

Remember too that most women will not bulk up, as we lack the hormones for that to happen.

To make your strength and weight loss goals successful, use the weights that leave your muscles feeling used by the 12th or so repetition. You'll build muscle and get stronger and fitter!
